Have you ever deliberately searched for a winery website expecting to find new and useful information such as current vintage tasting notes or holiday opening times, only to find the information is way out of date?

Does it actually make you feel slight resentment to the winery for being lazy, unprofessional, uncaring and for simply wasting your time. Ever had this experience?

Sadly, it seems an all too common occurrence.

So why am I asking if your winery needs a blog if most wine brands can’t even keep their website up to date?

You’re trying to sell wine aren’t you?

It’s not a hobby, but a business that needs to make sales and unless you already have a strong sales channel elsewhere, your website with eCommerce facilities should be at the top of your list to make these much needed sales.

But with thousands of other wine brands vying for consumer allegiance online, how can you get noticed?

First you need a website that is:

  • search optimised
  • aesthetically pleasing
  • user friendly
  • responsive
  • up to date
  • informative

A central hub of sales, marketing and communications for your wines.

However, for your website to be found online, it really isn’t as simple as the line in Field of Dreams ~ “if you build it he will come”.

Why a blog?

As we’ve mentioned previously, search engines love new, fresh, quality content. Websites that are frequently updated shine bright in the eyes of search engine spiders.

Not only does a blog provide a great outlet to build your website content, and write about a wide variety of topics to target more keywords; it also offers a chance to humanize your wine brand and differentiate it from the thousands of other winery websites already online.

If you don’t have a cellar door, a blog may be your chance to build your email list.

It really is a powerful tool to help communicate your brand experience.

The most authentic way to do that is by focusing on the human element to show consumers what your winery is all about.

Tell your story.

We are all too aware human beings have always been enchanted by stories, so enchant them with your winery story via your blog!

And on that note ~ if you already have an winery blog, when did you last update it?

Until next time…..
