We’ve written a few times now the importance of linking in search engine optimisationbut of all the types of links, one-way links to your website (inbound links) will hold the most weight with search engines.

Quality content is still the first element search engine spiders look for when they’re indexing webpages.

One of the major factors that contribute to a web page being considered “important” is the number of quality links pointing to that page. For example, if your page has 100 quality links leading to it, it will be ranked higher (in Google’s estimation) than one that only has 20.

The second element is inbound and outbound links.

The links coming into your site have more weight than the ones leaving your site, which is what makes generating inbound links an extremely important search engine optimization strategy.

So, as you’re building and implementing your search engine optimization strategy, take the time to consider and include the below linking tactics.

You will not be able to complete them all at the same time, so instead focus on one tactic at a time, adding to your search optimization strategy as you grow.

1. Post Quality Content

Write and publish quality content that others will want to share. Writing and posting mediocre content will not distinguish your website from the other thousands on the internet.

Alternatively, if you create informative, quality content, other websites may want to share your content on their websites (ethically) and you will receive inbound links organically.

2. Guest Blog

There are numerous online article depositories and other well known blogging sites that allow writers to submit articles and make them available to their readers.

Ensure you include your contact details at the end of your article and link it through to your website. Many readers if they have enjoyed your article, will then go to your website to see what else you have to offer.

3. Write Press Releases

Write press releases and submit them to online press release websites. Be sure to include your website link at the end of the press release so media representatives can contact you, but also so you have an incoming link and interested visitors can find your website. Again, the key is to provide quality content that is of value to others.

4. Blog

Blogging is a impressive way to generate fresh content and guest blogging on relevant blogs works a lot like article marketing, you generate inbound links to your site in each blog post you write. You can also include links back to each of your webpages and allow your readers to reprint your blog posts as long as they keep the links in place.

5. Online Directories

While there are many directories that charge for a listing, there are also several that will list your company’s site for free.

Subscribe to these free directories and this will again create inbound links to your website.

6. Be Social

Yes, participating in Facebook, Twitter & other social networking sites can create inbound links to your website. In addition, when you comment on forums and other blog posts you also create incoming links via your signature. So, social networking is extremely important to gaining links to your website.

Until next time…..
