Recently I’ve had a few discussions with small business owners during workshops about the time commitment required to run their social media efforts.

Many are becoming disheartened and thinking of pulling the plug on their social media activities altogether.

Still more mention they thought their efforts would have yielded higher results by now.

I continually say and I am going to say it again ~ don’t give up!!!

Many small business owners quit way too soon because they don’t see immediate results. Most enjoy the social interactions, but find the time commitment and the content creation the hardest aspects of the role.

There are no social media short cuts. Running engaging social media platforms requires commitment, patience and consistency. Social media is not all about the numbers ~ LIKES, RTs or even sales. Nor is it a cure-all for your company’s financial concerns. It’s just a tool, not a miracle worker.

However, I’ll say it again – don’t give up!!!

If you’re posting quality content, replying to comments and engaging other business owners via their own social media platforms, you will benefit.

This can be done with as little as 20 minutes to half an hour, 3 times a week depending on your business requirements. There are people, like myself who can help via blogs & online articles or support, coaching and training (shameless plug).

So, don’t give it when it all gets too hard. Using social media is not a quick fix, but part of a long term strategy to build loyal brand ambassadors and increase brand awareness. This will take effort and time.

Remember: It’s not a sprint, but a marathon!

Until next time…..
